Music Marketing: The Do It Yourself Musician-Gearing Up For You Tube Video Posting

Hi Music Fans,

This weekend, I invested time in diving in to the world of marketing music. As I jump off into this adventure that is marketing on social media, I decided to start by learning how to create a "You Tube" video with quality sound and quality images. I learned so much this weekend and learned about some cost effective solutions for filming on a budget!

First, I decided that my LG Smartphone had a very high quality video capture. From there I purchased a JOBY Tripod Mount to mount onto my tripod. In order to get the sound quality up to par, I found an inexpensive solution and purchased an iRig at guitar center, which is a pre-amp sound adapter that allows the user to plug in a condenser microphone in the smartphone for high quality sound. I wasn't sure if this was all going to work, but it did!!!!! I was so happy about that. I will be posting soon, utilizing my new gear.

Lastly, I spent time getting to know my video editing software. I currently am using Pinnacle Studio as my editing software and I am finding it user friendly.

Just wanted to share for any of you "Do -It-Yourselfers" out there. Anyone have any suggestions regarding gear for You Tube Video Recording?

Progress: New Song

Hi Music Fans,

I've written several new songs, but decisions, decisions..Which one do I record? Well I've decided my next recording will be a song called "Get Away" The song has been through several rewrites...8 in total! I think one of these days, I'll have it honed in..Coming pretty close to it. It is so true, and I heard this somewhere that 98% percent of your time is spent on 2% of your song. Its those final rewrites where I typically start to employ patience as it takes that to spending time trying to rewrite one line. One line can actually affect other parts of the song.

I always find it fascinating how much work goes into something that is only heard for 3 to 4 minutes at a time. Weeks, months, and sometimes years can be the length of time it might take a songwriter to complete a song. And after all the hard work, its heard for just a brief moment. Its so worth it though. For a songwriter, to hear your own song come to life is an experience that is indescribable. Hopefully, its a song the resonates with listeners and sticks with them throughout the years.

Does anyone have a creative project they are working on lately? It doesn't only have to be music..Feel free to share your progress and process.

Recent Concert: A Dynamic Duo and an Awesome Band

Hi Music Fans,

I just recently saw a "double bill" concert at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. It was awesome! Master hit songwriters Daryl Hall and John Oates played an evening of hit after hit! Daryl Hall's soulful voice resonated throughout the arena and John Oates harmonies and backup vocals completed the Hall and Oates sound.  The band "Train" lead the show with a very strong performance. Pat Monohan's voice sounded awesome! I especially liked the way they performed the songs "If it's Love". The lyrics projected behind the band as they played and the musicians were top notch!

As a songwriter myself, soaking in all these songs reminded my of the utter talent these guys have in crafting hit after hit. It was so inspiring to me, making me want to write more songs!

Truly inspiring!

Are there any concerts that you've attended that have been inspiring to you as a musician/songwriter? If you aren't a musician, any concerts you'd say that you've left going.."Now that was an awesome show.. I'll never forget that!" ?
